Nokia has unveiled a new suite of software tools and AI models designed to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the reliability of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks. Integrated into the company’s Altiplano platform, these innovations enable operators to build a digital twin of their FTTH infrastructure, offering a unified real-time view of both active and passive network components. This integration helps reduce operational costs and ensures faster issue detection and resolution, resulting in more reliable broadband delivery.
Operators rolling out FTTH networks often face challenges due to limited visibility into the passive outside plant, leading to inventory errors, repeated maintenance trips, cost overruns, and service delays. By providing deeper insights into the outside plant, Nokia’s tools allow operators to identify and resolve problems more quickly, expand networks efficiently, and deliver consistent, high-quality broadband to communities.
“Digital twins and AI tools will play an important role in autonomous networks,” said Jaimie Lenderman, Principal Analyst at Omdia. “By unifying active and passive components in a single view, operators can minimize disruptions, resolve issues swiftly, and deliver reliable, cost-effective broadband that sets a new connectivity standard.”
The Altiplano digital twin works seamlessly with various inventory and geospatial software and supports both greenfield and brownfield deployments. It comes pre-integrated with Nokia’s Broadband Easy digital platform, streamlining automated fiber rollout and operations.
Geert Heyninck, General Manager of Broadband Networks at Nokia, explained: “We can help operators eliminate blind spots in FTTH deployments by removing the need to view the active and passive network separately. Our tools and digital platforms provide a unified network perspective, allowing operators to detect and resolve issues before they escalate. This significantly cuts costs while improving the reliability and precision of network builds.”
The Altiplano platform gives operators a unified, real-time operational view through automation tools that validate inventory, topology, and resource data continuously. Additionally, operators can access Nokia’s new Fiber Health Analyzer and Subscriber Line Identifier applications via the Altiplano Marketplace.
The AI-powered Fiber Health Analyzer allows real-time monitoring of fiber link integrity, topology audits, fault isolation, root cause analysis, and proactive issue detection. Meanwhile, the Subscriber Line Identifier verifies splitter connectivity with minimal disruption and updates inventory instantly to reflect actual network configurations.
