Afero is collaborating with Texas Instruments to develop a seamless and secure Internet-of-Things platform designed for modern smart home products, according to a report published by AspenCore. The collaboration brings together TI’s first Wi-Fi microcontrollers purpose-built for IoT with Afero’s secure IoT software platform, creating an integrated solution focused on affordability, reliability, security, and simplified development.
The combined platform is positioned as an end-to-end ecosystem for connected devices, with both companies emphasizing a U.S.-sourced supply chain as a core component of the collaboration. Afero currently powers a major home improvement retailer’s smart home platform that is deployed in millions of homes across the United States. As reported by the publication, demonstrations at CES 2026 are expected to show, for the first time, TI’s Wi-Fi chips operating within an Afero-powered smart home environment.
Texas Instruments’ semiconductor portfolio, supported by its U.S. manufacturing footprint and focus on dependable supply, is designed to enable straightforward integration, reliable wireless connectivity, and a consistent user experience for developers and end users. Through a dedicated developer program, designers are able to evaluate TI’s Wi-Fi portfolio alongside the Afero IoT software platform, accelerating adoption across personal electronics, industrial systems, and enterprise applications. The ecosystem is intended to provide ease of use, fast and reliable performance, and secure, direct connectivity to the cloud for a wide range of devices.
“For true enterprise-grade security, we must move beyond software-only solutions and establish verifiable trust at the deepest layer: the silicon itself,” said Joe Britt, CEO and co-founder of Afero, as cited in the report. He added that the partnership with Texas Instruments, which continues to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint, represents a meaningful step toward supply-chain resilience and enterprise assurance in connected systems.
The Afero IoT software platform, combined with TI’s latest Wi-Fi wireless microcontrollers, is positioned as a comprehensive solution for secure IoT product development. TI’s CC3501E and CC3551E devices support multi-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.4, while also integrating hardware-based security features. These capabilities allow data to be transferred efficiently and securely, with interoperability designed to perform reliably across different installation environments. The platform is engineered with scalability and cost efficiency in mind, enabling engineers to securely connect products to the cloud using TI’s Wi-Fi portfolio.

The report also highlights the broader technology context driving demand for secure IoT platforms. Rapid, AI-driven growth in data center workloads has been accompanied by a significant rise in data generation and processing at the network edge. Gartner has projected that by 2025, 75 percent of enterprise-generated data will be processed outside traditional centralized data centers or cloud environments, while IDC anticipates that 60 percent of Global 2000 companies will double their investment in computing resources beyond conventional data centers. At the same time, the emergence of physical AI and embodied AI is increasing the need for IoT devices capable of generating, validating, and consuming AI-ready data.
According to the publication, the Afero platform is designed to address these requirements by supporting data-centric AI, ensuring the validity, veracity, and semantics of data at the point of creation. The platform also enables local processing, allowing for data reduction and federated processing before encrypted information is transmitted onward, while maintaining what Afero describes as frictionless security.
“Frictionless security has always been a design principle at Afero,” said Bret Jordan, chief security strategist at Afero. He pointed to the company’s commitment to the CISA Secure-by-Design pledge, support for the forthcoming U.S. Cyber Trust Mark, preparations for post-quantum cryptography, leadership roles in future IoT standards at the ITU-T, and recognition of secure IoT and operational technology as essential components of the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification process.
Beyond security architecture, the Afero platform also focuses on reducing complexity for end users.
