Airbus and Quantum Systems Partner to Boost European Aerial Reconnaissance Ecosystem at Paris Airshow 2025
Paris, France, 16 June 2025 — At the Paris Air Show 2025, Airbus Defence and Space and Quantum Systems signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their strategic collaboration. The focus is on enhancing tactical aerial reconnaissance integration within modern command and information systems, reinforcing European technological sovereignty amid rising geopolitical tensions and rapid defense innovation.
Their joint aim is to enable resilient, interoperable, and ready-to-use airborne surveillance systems for short- and medium-term deployment. Unlike closed-system competitors, Airbus and Quantum Systems are emphasizing open interfaces and transparency in their AI-powered reconnaissance ecosystem. This ensures European users maintain full control over data, tech, and future upgrades.
The cooperation extends to joint development of open interface initiatives, digital battlefield systems, and future-forward simulation environments—all shaped by lessons learned in Ukraine, where Quantum Systems maintains an in-house R&D and production facility.
“This alliance marks a milestone for European defense,” said Florian Seibel, CEO of Quantum Systems. “Through Airbus, we’re creating an autonomous, sovereign, and connected ecosystem for unmanned operations—interoperable and open to partners. We’re integrating our MOSAIC architecture beneath Airbus CombatCloud, enabling a battlefield-wide reconnaissance network from high altitudes to frontline units.”
Mike Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, added, “Our vision aligns with creating a European military aviation ecosystem. This partnership strengthens Europe’s autonomy in AI-based mission systems and manned-unmanned teaming. Software-first thinking will drive more efficient, adaptable military operations.”
Together, Airbus and Quantum Systems bring innovation, agility, AI depth, and global scope to enhance Europe’s defense capabilities.
