According to Offshore Energy.biz, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has launched a new 3D structural digital twin platform designed to optimize the safety, efficiency, and longevity of floating production, liquefied natural gas, and regasification units.
Named EagleTwin, the web-based solution integrates inspection and Class data with any computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), enabling comprehensive life-cycle management for offshore structures. By combining real-time operational insights with advanced visualization, the system enhances understanding of an asset’s condition for improved compliance and safety.
The cloud-based SOC Type 2 platform, available globally via the ABS MyFreedom portal, provides specialized tools for gauging, planning, and CAD-based structural assessments. Its interactive 3D digital models help operators visualize the condition of their assets, supporting informed decision-making during inspection and repair planning.
John McDonald, President and COO of ABS, stated that EagleTwin addresses major challenges in offshore asset management by offering a dynamic digital twin that delivers real-time insights into asset condition and risk factors. This capability allows earlier detection of potential issues, improving safety, operational efficiency, and asset value while reducing unplanned downtime and extending service life.
The initiative follows ABS’s recent endorsement of SBM Offshore’s NearZero FPSO design, a next-generation model integrating low-carbon technologies to achieve up to an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
