Canon Introduces Affordable 180 Camera

Published: 2024-06-11 Category: Spatial XR News

Leading camera manufacturer Canon has unveiled its latest addition to the dual-optic lens lineup, designed to enhance spatial video and photo capabilities for its high-end EOS R7 cameras.

The new lens, named RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM Dual Fisheye, is engineered to provide an ideal blend of clarity and usability, particularly for vlog-style VR creation. This more affordable lens option offers a slightly lower field of view and aperture compared to its predecessor but comes at a significantly reduced price.

Scheduled for release later this month at $1,099.00, this new lens is about half the price of the original lens launched with Canon’s EOS VR System in 2021.

Canon’s Official Statement: “This APS-C Stereoscopic VR lens’ ability to achieve a 144º wide-angle view and utilize equidistant projection makes it ideally suited for everyday, virtually hassle-free VR production. Also designed for versatility, this lens permits multiple methods of camera handling, from hand-holding, mounting on a gimbal, or tripod-mounting.”

The stereoscopic lens features an interpupillary distance (IPD) of 60mm, closely matching the average human IPD, which enhances the realism of the captured content when viewed by users.
