Asus and Xreal have jointly revealed the Asus ROG Xreal R1, a new set of gaming-focused XR glasses positioned as a high-performance virtual display for PC and console players. According to reporting by IGN, the device targets gamers seeking ultra-high refresh rates in a portable, glasses-style form factor rather than a traditional VR headset.
The ROG Xreal R1 builds on the foundation of Xreal’s earlier One Pro model, using the same Sony Micro-OLED panels with 1080p resolution and a 57-degree field of view. The key difference is speed. The new glasses support a 240Hz refresh rate, double that of the earlier model, alongside a 2ms response time, an incremental improvement over the previous 3ms. Video is delivered over USB-C, allowing the glasses to function as a large virtual screen for PCs and compatible handheld gaming devices.
Audio is integrated directly into the temples through built-in Bose speakers, while electrochromatic lenses automatically adjust tint based on ambient light or on-screen content, with manual control also available. As part of the collaboration with Asus, the glasses feature RGB lighting on both sides, configurable through an on-screen menu accessed via controls on the right temple.
To address devices that lack USB-C video output, Asus includes the ROG Control Dock. The dock provides two HDMI 2.0 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4 input, effectively acting as a switcher that allows users to move between multiple gaming systems without reconnecting cables. An analog-style selector on the dock enables quick input changes.
Weighing 91 grams, the ROG Xreal R1 is significantly lighter than conventional VR headsets, a factor highlighted in IGN’s report as central to its appeal for portable gaming setups. The glasses can also be connected directly to compatible handhelds without the dock, retaining full 240Hz performance.
Asus has not disclosed pricing details, but the company states that the ROG Xreal R1 is scheduled to ship in the first half of 2026, with further information expected closer to launch.
