Bentley Systems and Enactus Launch 2025 iTwin4Good Challenge to Address Global Infrastructure Workforce Shortage
As per a press release published on 26 June 2025, Bentley Systems, Incorporated (Nasdaq: BSY), a leading infrastructure engineering software company, together with Enactus, a global nonprofit supporting student innovation and entrepreneurship, has launched the 2025 iTwin4Good Challenge. This initiative comes at a time when the infrastructure industry is experiencing a significant workforce gap, as highlighted by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Research Institute, which reports that 49% of engineering firms face project backlogs of a year or more, and the Associated Builders and Contractors notes a shortage of over 400,000 construction workers.
The iTwin4Good Challenge invites university students worldwide to devise digital twin solutions that tackle pressing infrastructure issues. Over a six-week period, participants receive technical training, mentorship from Bentley experts, and the chance to become a certified iTwin Developer Associate. Individuals or teams of up to three will utilize Bentley’s iTwin platform to build applications aimed at generating positive environmental or social outcomes in their communities.
According to Bentley Systems, from June to October 2025, the challenge will include student teams from the U.S., Germany, Canada, the UK and Ireland (competing together), and Brazil. These teams will advance through national rounds, with top contenders presenting to industry experts and vying for cash prizes. Finalists will compete in a virtual “Champions of Champions” event, with the global winner earning an invitation to the Enactus World Cup 2025 in Bangkok.
Chris Bradshaw, chief sustainability and education officer at Bentley Systems, said: “The iTwin4Good Challenge is more than a student competition, it’s a catalyst for change and a strategic investment in the future of infrastructure. By engaging young minds in real-world problem-solving and equipping the next generation with digital twin expertise, we’re cultivating talent capable of addressing both today’s infrastructure needs and tomorrow’s sustainability challenges.”
George Tsiatis, president & CEO of Enactus Global & Resolution Project, added, “This partnership exemplifies what we do best—empowering students to tackle real-world challenges through innovation and entrepreneurship. When young people combine cutting-edge technology with purpose-driven action, they don’t just solve today’s problems, they build the foundation for a more sustainable future.”
The program aims to prepare industry-ready professionals capable of using digital twin technology for real-world infrastructure innovation, closing the gap between academic training and sector demands.
