Cisco and Tata Communications Partner on eSIM and IoT Connectivity
Cisco and Tata Communications Partner on eSIM and IoT Connectivity
In a major step for enterprise IoT, Tata Communications, a global communications technology provider, has announced a strategic collaboration with Cisco to redefine how businesses connect, manage, and scale connected devices worldwide.
As IoT operations expand, challenges remain in managing large device fleets across industries, from vehicles to sensors. These include fragmented SIM hardware caused by multiple vendors and standards, complex provisioning, and poor interoperability between networks and technologies. Such barriers slow deployments, raise costs, and reduce flexibility, limiting enterprises in scaling IoT initiatives effectively.
The collaboration integrates Tata Communications MOVE™ – an intelligent, multi-generational eSIM orchestration solution with 350+ million eSIM Operating Systems (OS) managed across 200+ countries and territories – into Cisco’s IoT Control Center, a cloud-based device management platform used by over 32,000 enterprises, supporting more than 270 million SIM IoT devices including 100 million connected cars. Together, Tata Communications and Cisco will deliver:
- Seamless device activation and management across SIM providers, networks, and eSIM standards
- Faster time-to-market with a unified, frictionless connectivity experience
- End-to-end visibility and control across IoT layers
- Reduced integration complexity and freedom from vendor lock-in
This partnership promises new agility, efficiency, and scalability for global enterprises managing complex IoT ecosystems.
Marco Bijvelds, Vice President and Global Head of Tata Communications MOVE™, stated: “The continuous evolution of eSIM technologies is generating a transformative shift in the way enterprises connect and manage their IoT devices. The unmatched power of Tata Communications’ intelligent IoT fabric and Cisco’s proven device management platform will empower global businesses to unlock new opportunities, streamline operations, and accelerate digital transformation. We are excited to create a foundation for the future of connected enterprises – where they can scale faster, smarter, and with more confidence.”
The joint effort is designed to support critical industries such as transportation, logistics, and manufacturing. Examples include trucking companies instantly activating cross-border trailers without local SIM cards, and utilities monitoring infrastructure across public and private networks without device reconfiguration.
Masum Mir, SVP and GM, Cisco Provider Mobility, said: “Together, Cisco and Tata Communications are enabling innovation and opening up new opportunities through our joint work on eSIM technology. As enterprises need greater simplicity, automation and scalability to effectively manage increasingly complex use cases, we see eSIM as a foundational technology. Tata Communications’ proven track record as a great Cisco partner made them a logical choice as we advance our vision for mobility services, particularly in managing connected vehicles over the full lifecycle – from manufacturing, to the dealership, to the road.”
Cisco and Tata Communications aim to set a new standard for the IoT industry, making interoperability, lifecycle intelligence, and scalability central. Their combined capabilities will enable enterprises to innovate faster, generate new revenue streams, and optimize connected operations, driving seamless interaction between people, spaces, and things.
