Vietnam has expanded its high-technology development agenda with the opening of new research and innovation facilities dedicated to artificial intelligence and digital twin technologies in Hanoi. According to reporting by The Hanoi Times, the country on January 8 unveiled both a Digital Twin Research and Development Center and a Center of Excellence for AI and Digital Twin, marking a new phase in its efforts to accelerate digital transformation and deepen participation in advanced technology value chains.

The two centers, inaugurated in Hanoi, are a joint initiative between Dassault Systèmes, a global leader in 3D design, engineering software, and advanced simulation, and the National Innovation Center under the Ministry of Finance. The partnership is intended to combine international technology expertise with national research and talent development priorities.

The facilities are designed to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies while supporting the development of high-quality technical human resources in Vietnam. In the initial phase, research and application efforts will focus on aerospace, with subsequent expansion planned across semiconductors, transportation, mobility solutions, and localized AI-powered digital twin technologies developed to meet domestic needs.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said the launch reflects growing confidence among French and European partners in Vietnam’s investment environment and its long-term vision for strategic technology development. He described the initiative as a model of cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as a framework for collaboration between Vietnam and leading global technology companies.

Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Tam said the two centers will function as both research hubs and training platforms. According to him, the facilities are intended to help Vietnamese enterprises master, apply, and further innovate strategic technologies, strengthening national capabilities in high-value technological fields.

Samson Khaou, Executive Vice President for Asia-Pacific at Dassault Systèmes, said the new centers will contribute to building a highly skilled engineering workforce, promote industry-specific innovation, and support Vietnam’s high-tech development priorities. He noted that digital twin technology, when integrated with artificial intelligence, has evolved into a core platform enabling governments and businesses to design, simulate, optimize, and operate complex systems in a more sustainable manner.

Artificial intelligence and digital twin technologies are among Vietnam’s 11 strategic technologies and 35 strategic technology products identified under a decision issued by the Prime Minister in June 2025. A digital twin is defined as a virtual representation of a physical object or system, in which the physical entity and its digital counterpart continuously exchange data. This process allows real-world systems to be monitored, analyzed, optimized, and used to forecast future scenarios.

According to the National Innovation Center, AI and digital twin technologies are being increasingly adopted across strategic sectors, including advanced manufacturing, aerospace, semiconductors, energy, biomedicine, smart factories, and smart cities. Their application is contributing to shorter research and development cycles, improved operational efficiency, and reduced deployment risks.

Vo Xuan Hoai, Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center, said the launch of the two centers supports the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. He added that the initiative contributes to Vietnam’s broader objectives for sustainable socio-economic development.

The launch ceremony for the R&D Center and the Center of Excellence for AI and Digital Twin took place on January 8 in Hanoi, with the National Innovation Center documenting the event.
