Diraq Awarded AU$500K CTCP Grant to Advance Quantum Energy Solutions
Diraq has secured AU$500,000 through the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources under the Critical Technologies Challenge Program (CTCP) to assess how quantum computing can improve the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of energy networks.
The initiative is led by Diraq in collaboration with the Real-Time Simulations (RTS) team at UNSW Sydney’s School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, Macquarie University, OPAL-RT TECHNOLOGIES Australia, and the Australian Energy Market Operator.
The project seeks to determine whether quantum computers can be used to optimize complex energy networks by pairing them with real-time simulation tools, increasing accuracy and scalability. Diraq’s contribution will focus on building software that allows seamless communication between its quantum systems and the RTS team’s platforms, eliminating the need for manual processes.
MengKe Feng, Simulation & Device Physics Manager at Diraq, stated, “This will eventually allow non-experimentalists to perform experiments on Diraq’s systems. It’s an initial step towards identifying real applications for quantum computers in the energy sector.”
Following development, Diraq will conduct tests on 10-qubit devices to evaluate how the algorithms might be scaled. The program aligns with CTCP’s core objective: bridging quantum technologies with tangible applications.
Diraq CEO and Founder Andrew Dzurak commented, “We are delighted to be awarded funding from the Australian Government. It’s an opportunity for the company to continue to form key partnerships with subject-matter experts in the quantum ecosystem, which will ultimately enable Diraq to deliver compact, affordable quantum computing that achieves utility scale ahead of its competitors.”

About Diraq
Diraq is a Sydney-based quantum computing company founded in 2022 by Professor Andrew Dzurak, a global leader in silicon quantum research. The company is focused on building scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computers using spin qubits in silicon—a technology compatible with existing semiconductor manufacturing. By leveraging more than 20 years of foundational research, Diraq aims to bring quantum computing into real-world utility by using the same processes foundries already use for classical chips.
The core of Diraq’s innovation lies in its quantum dot-based architecture, which enables high-fidelity qubit control and long coherence times, essential for reliable quantum computation. The company has demonstrated single-qubit gate fidelities of 99.9% and multi-qubit logic gates at cryogenic temperatures, making their systems compact, energy-efficient, and manufacturable at scale.
Diraq is actively collaborating with government bodies, universities, and industry partners, including through projects funded by the Australian Government and participation in international quantum benchmarking programs. The company is expanding its presence in global technology hubs such as Silicon Valley, Boston, and Chicago.
With a growing team of quantum physicists, engineers, and software developers, Diraq is positioning itself as a leader in the race to deliver practical quantum computing solutions for sectors like energy, defense, finance, and logistics. Advancing Quantum and beyond.
