Exploring the Future of Digital Twin Technology in the UK
techUK, in collaboration with Fujitsu, WHP Group, and the University of Salford, has embarked on an ambitious research project titled “Digital Twins of Everything and Everyone: Business Models 2030-50.” This study aims to explore the future landscape and economic impact of widespread Connected Digital Twin technology, with findings set to be released in early 2025.
Overview of the Study
The research project will unfold in four distinct phases, providing a detailed analysis of the global Digital Twin landscape, assessing the UK’s capabilities and gaps, exploring emerging business models, and evaluating the economic influence of integrating Digital Twins across various sectors, including buildings and transport infrastructure.
- Global Landscape Analysis: This initial phase will examine the state-of-the-art developments in Digital Twin technology worldwide.
- UK Capability and Gap Assessment: This phase will identify the strengths and areas for improvement within the UK.
- Emerging Business Models: The study will explore new business opportunities and models enabled by Digital Twins.
- Economic Impact: The final phase will assess the projected economic benefits of integrating Digital Twin technology across various sectors.
The project is expected to deliver strategic recommendations to foster faster adoption of Digital Twin technology in the UK, positioning the country as a leader in this field.



Building on Previous Work
This new study builds on techUK’s 2021 report “Unlocking Value Across the Digital Twin Ecosystem,” which outlined how Digital Twins could help the UK recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and provided recommendations for government intervention. The current research aims to further showcase how Digital Twins are reshaping industries, economies, and societies globally.

What to Expect Next
