In a landmark collaboration, NVIDIA and the South Korean government are building a vast national AI infrastructure designed to fuel the country’s next wave of innovation, industries, and job creation. According to NVIDIA’s newsroom, the initiative will see the deployment of more than 260,000 NVIDIA GPUs across sovereign clouds and industrial AI factories.
The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) plans to deploy over 50,000 of NVIDIA’s latest GPUs through national data centers and major cloud providers, including NHN Cloud, Kakao Corp., and NAVER Cloud. This effort aligns with Korea’s strategy to expand sovereign AI computing for manufacturing, telecommunications, and public sectors.
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang highlighted Korea’s pivotal role in the global AI revolution, comparing AI factories to the nation’s physical manufacturing legacy. “Korea’s leadership in technology and manufacturing positions it at the heart of the AI industrial revolution,” he said. Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon added that the partnership with NVIDIA would strengthen South Korea’s manufacturing competitiveness and solidify its status among the top three global AI powers.
AI Factories Transform Korea’s Industrial Landscape
Leading Korean companies are constructing large-scale AI factories powered by NVIDIA’s latest technologies. Samsung Electronics will deploy more than 50,000 GPUs to drive intelligent semiconductor manufacturing, leveraging NVIDIA’s CUDA-X, Omniverse, cuLitho, Nemotron datasets, and Isaac Sim to develop digital twins and home robotics.
SK Group is designing an AI factory hosting over 50,000 GPUs, featuring Asia’s first industrial AI cloud using NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs for physical AI and robotics. Similarly, Hyundai Motor Group will integrate 50,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs to advance autonomous driving, smart factories, and mobility AI — a collaboration valued at approximately $3 billion.
NAVER Cloud will expand its sovereign AI infrastructure with more than 60,000 GPUs, focusing on digital twin and industry-specific AI applications for shipbuilding, security, and national-scale projects.
Accelerating Sovereign AI and Research Excellence
South Korea’s Sovereign AI Foundation Models project — supported by NVIDIA NeMo and Nemotron datasets — brings together NAVER Cloud, SK Telecom, NC AI, LG AI Research, and Upstage to create advanced Korean-language LLMs for public and enterprise use.
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) will establish a Center of Excellence using the nation’s sixth-generation supercomputer, HANGANG, powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing. KISTI will also utilize the NVIDIA NVQLink and CUDA-Q platforms to advance quantum computing, error correction, and hybrid quantum-GPU applications.
Supporting Startups and Future Growth
NVIDIA is launching a startup alliance with partners such as SK Telecom and venture firms including IMM Investment, Korea Investment Partners, and SBVA to foster new AI-driven enterprises. Startups will gain access to NVIDIA’s computing infrastructure and participate in Korea’s N-Up AI startup incubation program, supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
This nationwide collaboration between NVIDIA and South Korea — announced alongside the APEC Summit — underscores a unified vision: transforming the country into a global hub for AI, quantum computing, and digital manufacturing.
