LG Uplus is moving to deepen automation across its commercial network operations, expanding what it calls its Autonomous Operation Network strategy by embedding AI agents and digital twin technologies into live infrastructure. The initiative, first reported by The Asia Business Daily, marks a shift from partial automation toward a fully integrated, AI-driven operational framework spanning the entire network lifecycle.
At a briefing held at LG Science Park in Seoul, the company outlined its plan to transition from automation limited to specific functions toward an AI-based operating environment that manages fault response, traffic control, wireless optimization, and central office operations as a unified system. According to the report in The Asia Business Daily, LG Uplus described the move as a structural change designed to address the constraints of labor-intensive network management while delivering a more seamless communication experience for customers.
Central to the strategy is AION, short for Artificial Intelligence Orchestration Nexus, which serves as the core platform of the Autonomous Operation Network. Through AION, LG Uplus is systematically rolling out automation for repetitive tasks alongside an AI-powered predictive response framework. The company said that following AION’s introduction, customer-reported quality complaint cases declined by 70%, while complaints from home subscribers dropped by 56%.
The company also detailed how AI agents are being deployed directly into operational workflows. These agents monitor the network continuously, 24 hours a day, assessing potential disruptions, determining impact scope, and selecting appropriate countermeasures. The system handles processes ranging from remote remediation to dispatching on-site technicians when required. During periods of sudden traffic volatility, AI agents automatically adjust operations to prevent base station overload, helping stabilize service continuity.
Within central office environments—where core telecommunications infrastructure is installed—LG Uplus is pairing AI with digital twin technology to expand autonomous oversight. Digital twins replicate physical facilities within a virtual model, allowing real-time data analysis and simulation. By combining this virtual representation with AI-based control systems, the company aims to strengthen predictive maintenance and operational visibility.
Supporting this framework is Yubot (U-BOT), an AI autonomous driving robot operating within central offices. Powered by EXAONE, the artificial intelligence model developed by LG AI Research, Yubot navigates facilities to gather information including equipment conditions, temperature levels, and environmental metrics. That data is then transmitted into the digital twin system for integrated analysis and operational optimization.
Kwon Junhyuk, Senior Vice President of LG Uplus, said the company sees the evolution toward an autonomous operation network as an opportunity to elevate customer standards beyond conventional performance metrics. “We expect that the evolution toward an autonomous operation network will allow us to expand the standard of customer experience from the existing ‘quality’ to ‘trust’,” he said, adding that LG Uplus will continue strengthening the core network technologies customers rely on most in pursuit of a safer and more sustainable society.
