Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. has announced a strategic partnership with Gradient Marine, a U.S.-based provider of advanced digital modeling, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop environments. The collaboration will integrate it’s Virtual Maritime Picture (VMP) software to create digital twins for OPT’s flagship platforms, including the PowerBuoy® and WAM-V® autonomous surface vehicles.
This integration will allow real-world simulation, mission rehearsal, and lifecycle testing in virtual environments before deployment, aiming to accelerate development cycles and reduce operational risks. The partnership is also expected to enhance OPT’s digital engineering processes, offering new tools for defense, security, and commercial customers.
According to Jason Weed, Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales at OPT, this partnership provides customers with “simulation-before-deployment,” delivering faster innovation, reduced risks, and improved mission outcomes. Taylor Wilson, President and CEO, emphasized that adding OPT systems to the VMP library enables seamless integration for developing Concepts of Operations and testing autonomy software.
The collaboration opens opportunities in defense, offshore wind, aquaculture, subsea infrastructure, and environmental monitoring, while expanding access to its’s Department of Defense customer network.
