OpenAI and NVIDIA announce 10 gigawatt partnership for AI datacenters
OpenAI and NVIDIA have signed a landmark agreement to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems, representing millions of GPUs, to support their next-generation AI infrastructure. According to them, their new partner plans to invest up to $100 billion in the initiative, with funding released progressively as each gigawatt is deployed. The first phase will use NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform and is scheduled for the second half of 2026.
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said the collaboration is the next leap forward after a decade of joint progress, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized that compute infrastructure will be the foundation of the future economy, powering AI breakthroughs and empowering people and businesses. Their President Greg Brockman highlighted that deploying 10 gigawatts with them will help expand the benefits of intelligence technologies worldwide.
They has chosen them as its preferred compute and networking partner, with both organizations aligning their roadmaps across software and hardware. This partnership builds on work with collaborators including Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate partners to develop advanced AI infrastructure. With over 700 million weekly active users and strong enterprise adoption, OpenAI said the project advances its mission to build artificial general intelligence that benefits humanity.
