OroraTech’s satellites use mid-wave and long-wave infrared sensors to detect active flames and smoldering zones invisible to optical systems. The Forest-3 satellite, launched in 2025, features a three-channel thermal infrared system and onboard AI, designed to deliver fire alerts within a few minutes via X-band downlinks, with onboard AI minimizing processing delays. “Their ability to design and operate nano-satellites, as well as interpret complex data, has contributed to the commercial success of their Wildfire Intelligence solution,” said Lucas Guillet, Investment Director at BNP Paribas Solar Impulse Venture Fund.
The platform’s wildfire digital twin—a cloud-based model—simulates fire behavior using wind, vegetation, and elevation data. For urban development, the Fire Spread tool predicts fire paths to prioritize evacuation routes, while the Burnt Area Mapping tool, with 10-meter resolution, assesses infrastructure damage. In logistics, companies like Brazilian cellulose giant Suzano use OroraTech to monitor 2.7 million hectares, ensuring supply chain continuity during fire seasons.
Scaling Impact: From Forests to Climate Resilience
OroraTech’s platform has monitored vast forested areas worldwide, supporting earlier detection efforts that can help reduce fire spread and associated emissions. The European Union’s Copernicus program uses OroraTech’s data for emergency response, while partnerships with NVIDIA Earth-2 and Google Cloud enhance predictive capabilities. “The increasing intensity and frequency of wildfires poses a significant threat to our planet,” said Shishir Sinha, Executive Director of Rabo Ventures. “We recognise the urgent need to address these risks.”
Customers include governments, forestry firms, and insurers. Chilean forestry company ARAUCO has used OroraTech’s Fire Spread tool to guide firefighting resource allocation in wildfire events. Insurers use Burnt Area Mapping to validate claims, and urban planners leverage Land Surface Temperature data to mitigate heat islands, critical for urban resilience. OroraTech’s 2025 GREEN+ Programme partnership monitors protected forests in South America, supporting biodiversity and carbon preservation. These efforts align with broader initiatives in urban resilience, where real-time climate and wildfire data are playing an increasingly important role.
Competitive Edge in a Crowded Market
OroraTech competes with companies like Planet Labs and Fireball International but stands out with its thermal infrared focus and scalable satellite infrastructure. Competitors’ optical sensors or ground-based systems struggle with night detection or remote areas.
