San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI), operated by Hanseatic Global Terminals and SSA Marine, has rolled out a new digital operations platform developed in partnership with NextPort.AI, designed to increase transparency and operational efficiency across the terminal.

As reported by Port Technology International, the solution is built around a Digital Twin framework, offering a live, virtual model of terminal activities. This digital representation enables continuous online visibility across the terminal’s equipment fleet, including terminal tractors, container handlers, and ship-to-shore (STS) and rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes. The enhanced oversight supports stronger situational awareness, performance tracking, and more informed operational decision-making.

STI General Manager Andrés Albertini stated that the implementation reflects the progress achieved internally by STI teams in leveraging and refining telemetry systems. He explained that the collaborative initiative now allows real-time identification of both the location and essential operating data of terminal equipment. According to Albertini, the combination of STI’s technological capabilities and NextPort.AI’s expertise resulted in an integrated platform that reinforces operational management, improves decision processes, and sustains continuous efficiency improvements.

All terminal machinery has been equipped with the Black Dog card, a telemetry device engineered in-house by STI’s Reliability team. This hardware enables operational data to be transmitted instantly to a centralised platform, facilitating coordinated management of daily operations alongside maintenance planning.

The broader application of telemetry is also expected to advance sustainability objectives. By streamlining transport routes and lowering fuel usage as well as equipment wear, the system holds potential to reduce emissions and contribute toward a smaller carbon footprint.

In a related development, Hanseatic Global Terminals recently finalised the rebranding of its Le Havre terminal in January, further aligning its global terminal operations.

According to Port Technology International, the deployment underscores the growing role of digital twin technologies and advanced telemetry in modernising port and terminal operations worldwide.
