Synopsys, Inc. has introduced a simulation-driven digital twin framework designed to optimize dynamic manufacturing processes in near real time, according to PR Newswire. Developed in collaboration with technical partners showcased at Microsoft Ignite, the new approach integrates NVIDIA Omniverse libraries, NVIDIA CUDA-X technologies, accelerated Synopsys physics solvers, cloud services from Microsoft Azure, and GPU-native Ansys Fluent software. Together, these components form an open-source foundation meant to enhance industrial operations by connecting high-fidelity physics with scalable cloud computing.
PR Newswire states that the framework represents a blueprint for manufacturers aiming to advance digital transformation, with early adopters such as Krones AG demonstrating practical value. Krones, a global leader in packaging and bottling systems, became the first company to deploy this jointly developed technology. Its engineering teams used the system to build a physically accurate virtual assembly line capable of analyzing critical production variables — including bottle geometry, liquid viscosity, and fill levels — while generating optimization outputs in near real time.
Traditional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) workflows are powerful but often too slow to support immediate decision-making, as most high-fidelity simulations require several hours to complete. Synopsys’ cloud-native, GPU-accelerated solver reduces this burden by compressing simulation runtimes from three to four hours down to under five minutes. According to PR Newswire, the solution uses OpenUSD to maintain interoperability across major computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools, enabling teams to iterate rapidly and collaborate effectively from design through production.
Krones’ deployment shows how digital twins are evolving into full-scale operational systems. CADFEM Germany GmbH, an Ansys Apex Channel Partner, refined Ansys Fluent settings to fit Krones’ requirements, amplifying the benefits of GPU acceleration. Combined with Omniverse libraries, Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure, and SoftServe’s integration expertise, engineers were able to view simulation results inside a digital twin of an entire factory floor. This helped Krones achieve real-time optimization, smarter resource utilization, and faster collaboration across engineering, operations, and R&D teams.
The system introduces major performance advantages for manufacturing environments. Key benefits include the ability to compare scenarios instantly, make immediate adjustments, minimize waste, and streamline communication across teams. The framework’s modular and customizable design also supports new vertical uses, allowing organizations to develop their own physics-informed applications across industries. NVIDIA’s Vice President of Omniverse and Simulation Technology, Rev Lebaredian, said that manufacturers have struggled to optimize processes in real time because traditional simulation is too slow for live factory decisions. By combining Synopsys’ accelerated physics with NVIDIA Omniverse and Microsoft Azure, he said, the framework enables full factory-floor simulation and operational optimization without interrupting physical systems.
