US AI Adoption in Construction and Design Reaches New High in 2025 – Houzz Research
According to the 2025 U.S. Houzz State of AI in Construction and Design Report, more than one in three construction professionals have already adopted AI in their businesses.
The Houzz survey, conducted between May 9 and May 28, 2025, analyzed responses from 722 U.S. companies providing construction and design services on the Houzz platform. Among respondents, 97% offer residential services, 49% earn $500,000 or more annually, and 20% report revenues over $2 million. Most (84%) are owners or partners, and 87% have full company visibility.
AI awareness is high: 69% of construction and design professionals are familiar with AI, with 59% specifically aware of AI tools built for their industry. Only 8% report no exposure. More than one-third of businesses have implemented AI solutions, while 66% believe AI will transform their field within five years.
AI is already impacting workflows: 62% use AI for administrative tasks, 55% for marketing and sales, and 42% for planning and design. In construction, AI is leveraged most often for project management, while designers rely on it for creative and content-driven work. Average weekly time savings exceed three hours for firms using AI, with estimated annual productivity gains of $108,000 per company ($170,000 for construction firms, $74,400 for designers).
Larger firms lead in adoption: Construction businesses with 10+ employees are twice as likely to use AI as the overall sector. While nearly three-quarters of construction companies use AI in at least part of their workflow, only 28% use it broadly. Among large design firms, half already use AI tools.
AI applications vary: In construction, 47% use AI for admin tasks, 42% for project/client management, and large teams also focus on sales, marketing, operations, and reporting. For designers, AI is most often used for document formatting, scheduling, and content creation. Both groups benefit from improved productivity, reduced manual work, and better organization.
Satisfaction and concerns: 74% of construction professionals and 70% of designers are satisfied with AI tools. Top concerns remain reliability, accuracy, data security, and cost. Despite this, most users receive no formal training on AI tools (92% in construction, 94% in design).
Extended findings: Among specialty contractors, 38% use AI, saving an average of 3.8 hours per week, with 78% satisfied. Across all sectors, motivations for adopting AI include efficiency, performance improvement, accuracy, and competitive edge.
AI at Houzz: Houzz Pro, the company’s project management and design suite, now features AutoMate AI to automate client messaging, estimates, 3D models, daily logs, business insights, and more. These integrated tools are included at no extra cost, keeping data private and secure.
Methodology: The survey included a broad mix of firms: 68% in residential design, 50% in residential construction, 24% in commercial design, and 16% in commercial construction, with 11% specialty service providers. Respondents spanned all revenue sizes and company scales.
The 2025 U.S. Houzz State of AI in Construction and Design Report underscores that AI is no longer a future promise—it’s now an essential driver of productivity and transformation across the construction and design industry.
