VoxelSensors to Advance Next-Generation Depth Sensing Technology with Qualcomm
VoxelSensors, a Belgian deep-tech startup focused on intelligent sensing and Physical AI, has announced a collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. to optimize its Single Photon Active Event Sensor (SPAES™) 3D sensing technology with Snapdragon® XR platforms.
The SPAES™ architecture is designed to overcome critical depth sensing limitations in robotics and XR by delivering 10x power savings, ultra-low latency, and robust performance under varied lighting conditions. This breakthrough enables machines to better interpret the physical world and human behavior from a user’s perspective, advancing Physical AI to create adaptive, user-centered interactions.
Working with Qualcomm, VoxelSensors will integrate its SPAES™ 3D sensing with the Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 platform, providing a low-latency, flexible 3D event data stream. The solution is expected to reach select customers and partners by December 2025.
Johannes Peeters, CEO of VoxelSensors, highlighted that after five years of development, the company is realizing its vision by aligning with Qualcomm’s XR platforms. He emphasized SPAES™’ suitability for next-generation 3D sensing and eye-tracking systems, combined with inference engines for egocentric data capture to enable personalized AI agent interactions.
Ziad Asghar, SVP & GM of XR at Qualcomm Technologies, noted that expanding the XR industry requires smaller, faster, and more power-efficient devices. He pointed out that VoxelSensors’ technology could deliver higher performance at significantly lower power consumption, a key requirement for all-day wearable AR smart glasses.
As VoxelSensors continues to miniaturize its sensing solutions, integration into commercial products is set to enhance the value proposition of next-generation XR offerings. The collaboration with Qualcomm underlines the company’s commitment to pushing the XR ecosystem forward and accelerating mainstream adoption of lightweight, everyday AR devices.
