Reply is supporting global retail and services group Otto Group in the rollout of a centralised, AI-driven virtual control system designed to coordinate intelligent robots across complex logistics environments. The initiative, developed through a strategic collaboration between Otto Group, Reply, and NVIDIA, introduces what is referred to as a “Robotic Coordination Layer,” a software foundation intended to train, simulate, and orchestrate both autonomous mobile robots and stationary automation systems. According to the Business Wire report, the objective is to accelerate delivery times while improving overall service performance across Otto Group’s logistics operations.

At the core of the system is a high-fidelity digital twin that functions as an exact virtual replica of the physical warehouse environment. This model continuously reflects the precise positions, movements, and interactions of all robotic systems operating within the facility. Built using Roboverse Reply’s expertise in robotic integration and advanced 3D computing, the digital twin establishes a unified, data-driven foundation that supports continuous optimisation, in-depth process analysis, and operational transparency across large-scale logistics sites.

The Robotic Coordination Layer itself was developed by Otto Group one.o, the group’s technology and consulting arm. It extends the capabilities of the digital twin by linking it with essential enterprise systems, including robot fleet management platforms and the warehouse management system (WMS). Through this integration, warehouse operators gain the ability to visualise, coordinate, and manage multiple robotic fleets from a single central platform. The system also enables virtual reconfiguration of warehouse zones and simulation of new layouts or robotic workflows prior to physical implementation, reducing risk and disruption.

This virtual-first approach allows Otto Group to manage peak-period demand more effectively, minimise costly operational downtime, and accelerate the onboarding of new robotic solutions. It also supports coordinated operations across heterogeneous robotic fleets, ensuring that different robot types can collaborate efficiently within shared environments. As outlined in the Business Wire release, the platform is designed to support scalability across highly complex logistics infrastructures.

To achieve the level of spatial accuracy required for a high-fidelity digital twin, Roboverse Reply deployed advanced scanning and camera systems mounted on Boston Dynamics’ mobile robot, Spot. Data captured through this process is processed via a sophisticated post-processing workflow, forming the basis of detailed three-dimensional warehouse models. These models are then integrated into NVIDIA’s Omniverse simulation and AI infrastructure, including NVIDIA Isaac, the company’s AI and robotics development platform.

By leveraging NVIDIA Omniverse and Isaac, the virtual control environment supports precise key performance indicator (KPI) calculations and enables data-driven decision-making in complex operational scenarios. The system allows for rapid simulation, training, and deployment of multiple robot types, providing a controlled environment in which new configurations can be tested before being introduced into live operations.

Kai Uwe Ernst, Executive Partner at Reply, stated that the creation of the digital twin goes beyond simple spatial mapping. He noted that combining NVIDIA’s technologies with Reply’s AI and robotics expertise enables intelligent orchestration at scale, allowing robotic fleets to communicate and collaborate seamlessly. According to Ernst, this capability establishes a new benchmark for efficiency and adaptability in modern logistics environments.

The pilot implementation is being launched at the Hermes Fulfilment logistics centre in Löhne, Germany. The site will serve as a reference model for future deployments across additional Otto Group locations worldwide, providing a repeatable framework for scaling intelligent automation throughout the group’s global logistics network.

Kay Schiebur, Member of the Executive Board for Services at Otto Group, said the company began its AI and robotics journey in logistics more than three years ago. He explained that the experience gained to date has demonstrated significant potential for efficiency and service improvements. Schiebur added that the collaboration with NVIDIA and Reply creates a foundational communication structure for robotic systems, enabling rapid scaling across complex operations while reinforcing Otto Group’s leadership in responsible business practices, particularly in Europe.

The initiative highlights Roboverse Reply’s role as an implementation partner for AI-powered robotics and Physical AI within the logistics sector. Through the development of the digital twin and orchestration layer, Roboverse Reply is supporting Otto Group’s gradual transformation of its logistics facilities into a connected, virtual, and highly scalable warehouse ecosystem. As reported by Business Wire, the shift is intended to deliver faster order fulfilment, lower operating costs, and increased operational flexibility, helping Otto Group maintain a competitive edge in global retail logistics.
