Samsung Galaxy XR Headset Name Revealed Through App Leak
Samsung Galaxy XR Headset Name Revealed Through App Leak
Samsung has been showcasing Project Moohan, its Android XR headset, for months, but that was never intended as the final branding. A note uncovered inside a Galaxy S25 FE application appears to reveal the likely name.
Samsung has spent 2025 promoting its first Android XR device under the codename Project Moohan. Now, a fresh leak inside one of its own apps points to the name Galaxy XR.
Project Moohan was always unlikely to remain. Galaxy XR fits neatly with the company’s smartphones, tablets, and wearables. Reports have casually used Galaxy XR all year, although Samsung has kept to the codename until now.
A recent discovery within the Camera Assistant app on the Galaxy S25 FE, first reported by SamMobile, looks to confirm the title. The app option reads, “Add a 3D capture option to the top of the preview so you can create spatial photos and videos for Galaxy XR headsets.” This feature is not easily accessible on other models without sideloading the update.
The description echoes spatial photos and videos on iPhone, designed for Apple’s Vision Pro. Such shots map 3D space for richer environments compared to panoramas, viewable directly in the headset. Samsung appears ready to offer similar phone-to-headset functionality.
Details remain scarce about what the Galaxy XR can deliver. Samsung has teased its look during major showcases, though performance specifics are unknown. The company has confirmed its debut XR headset is due before year-end, alongside its first trifold phone.

About Galaxy XR
Samsung’s Project Moohan, expected to launch under the name Galaxy XR, is Samsung’s first major step into the extended reality market. The device has been in development throughout 2025 and is being built in partnership with Google, running on the new Android XR platform designed specifically for immersive headsets.
Leaked specifications suggest the headset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM, and running a custom version of Android 14 optimized for XR. Early model numbers circulating in certification databases identify the device as SM-I610. Reports also indicate that Samsung will equip the headset with high-resolution micro-OLED panels, possibly sourced from Sony, aimed at delivering crisp visuals with a high refresh rate.
The Galaxy XR is rumored to be unveiled at Samsung’s September Unpacked event, with availability in South Korea as early as mid-October. Pricing speculation places the device between 2.5 and 4 million won, roughly translating to 1,800 to 2,800 US dollars. This would make it more affordable than Apple’s Vision Pro while still positioning it as a premium product.
Samsung has teased the headset’s design at various tech events, though details on features like battery life, sensors, and global rollout remain unconfirmed.
