Tech Edition reports that Univers has inaugurated the world’s first Global Impact AI Lab (IAL) in Singapore, a major collaboration with AMD, Microsoft, and the National University of Singapore (NUS). Supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the lab aims to fast-track enterprise-scale innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to advance industrial efficiency and sustainability.
The new facility is structured as an incubation hub combining academic research, governance frameworks, and cutting-edge technology. It focuses on three pillars of progress — energy, operational, and system efficiency — using AI-driven optimisation to improve productivity per kilowatt, unify connected operations, and enable seamless orchestration across infrastructure and energy networks.
The launch was held at the One Univers event, officiated by Tan Kiat How, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Digital Development and Information. His presence reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to driving digital innovation through strong collaboration between government and enterprise.
Michael Ding, Global Executive Director at Univers, highlighted that meaningful progress in AI and IoT requires partnership. “AI and IoT achieve their full potential when powered by strong partnerships. IAL unites leading industry and academic expertise to transform innovation into enterprise advantage,” he said.
Recognised in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Global Industrial IoT Platforms, Univers continues to strengthen its role as a strategic technology leader. The Global Impact AI Lab will help enterprises convert new technologies into practical, commercial applications that enhance agility and competitiveness.
Each partner contributes specific expertise:
- AMD focuses on real-time, secure AI at the edge, using heterogeneous computing to deliver high-performance intelligence for mission-critical operations. “We are collaborating with Univers to accelerate innovation and show how heterogeneous computing powers edge AI,” said Yousef Khalilollahi, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Embedded Business Group at AMD.
- Microsoft brings its cloud and AI platforms to optimise enterprise infrastructure and operations. “This collaboration speeds up digital transformation by turning intelligent ideas into tangible business impact,” stated Saj Kumar, Regional Business Leader for Manufacturing at Microsoft.
- NUS will nurture AI-ready talent, preparing students through real-world mentorship and projects. “This partnership builds bridges between academia and industry, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and develop solutions for real challenges,” said Professor Bernard Tan, Senior Vice-Provost (Undergraduate Education) at NUS.
By combining research, industry insight, and application, the Global Impact AI Lab represents a key milestone toward a more intelligent and sustainable digital economy. The initiative positions Singapore as a hub for enterprise transformation, empowering industries to operationalise AI and IoT for long-term growth.
